It’s no secret that a cluttered home can negatively impact a person’s state of mind and cause stress levels to increase. For most people, the thought of decluttering is a stress in itself, but in actual fact once completed, the impact on an individual’s mindset entirely worth it.
On September 10th, Permian Self Storage is joining the nation for R U OK day. The R U OK organisation helps inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with anyone who may be struggling with life. You do not need to be an expert to reach out – just a good friend and a great listener.
This year, being stuck at home during the pandemic has taken a toll on individuals mental health. With the amount of time we are all spending at home during this COVID-19 pandemic, Permian Self Storage is taking a step to help towards your mental health. Through providing some simple steps to help you making sure the space around you is a non-stressful presence in your life.
Create a Plan
Decluttering can be stressful – that is no lie. However, stress is what we want to try and eliminate by performing the decluttering process, so developing an achievable plan is important. Don’t feel you have to attack all your decluttering at once. Figure out what days’ work best for you and importantly the time of day you are highly motivated. If you feel like your lack of motivation will affect the process, tackle one of the biggest jobs first, then you will possibly feel more motivated to get smaller items done later down the track.
It does not all need to go at once
If you are new to decluttering or declutter regularly, no one expects you to throw out everything that you have not used within the last three months. We recommend starting small, decide on what you do not need and look at some donation points in your area if the items are still in good condition to be re homed. Come back in three or so months and sort through again, alternatively if you have don’t have enough room for everything you would like to keep, contact Permian Self Storage and we can offer advice and lend a helping hand.
On the other hand, if you are not intending to review your items on a regular basis, don’t make the mistake of building up the clutter in bags and boxes – an overhaul of your items can help let go of that stress. Decide what you want to do with it, sell it, bin it, or donate it, but essentially get rid of it.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Decluttering can be a great commitment and a lot of effort, mentally and physically. Environmental psychologist, Sally Augustin, PhD, has explained “The more clutter, the harder we have to work to scan and sort through our surroundings in order to find what we’re looking for or do what we have planned, and that can be stressful.” Do not be afraid to reach out and ask for help, whether it’s asking family members, friends or even finding professionals to help you out.
Whether its decluttering or confiding in a friend, taking the first step towards helping clear some of the stresses from your life to live a clutter free life, mentally and physically. If you need any help, whether its needing further tips on how to declutter or finding storage options after the decluttering process, contact Permian Self Storage today.
